Choice 1 2

A new norm for achieving better outcomes resulting in a life of freedom

I Choose:  The Keys to the Way People Work Best

Life can sometimes seem to be pushing us from pillar to post. Come along to this course for a clear view of how our reality really works. There are some fine examples throughout history of people who seemed to have a good grasp of their place in this world  – people who understood who they were and where they were going. This course teaches those ways – ways that mostly have not been taught in the mainstream.

Life is about relationship and our constant challenge in life is how to succeed in relationship with firstly ourselves and then others. Absolutely everything else flows from there. Based on the lives and works of William Glasser, Barnes Boffey, Judy McFadden, Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein, the principles apply to all areas of life so the subjects are wide ranging – for example:

Choice 3 2

– help a marriage  and/or a family work

– guide a teenager who won’t be ruled

– know what you want and what works for you

– see your own dreams and get them  happening

– notice your own unwanted behaviours and give them up

– help other people who are hurting

Choice 2 2

– build the relationships you want

– believe that you too can actually have the life you want

Do we really have a choice? According to this course all we ever do is choose. And so we address one question – what will be my next choice? We analyse the anatomy of a choice: am I really locked in to repeating the bad choices of the past?; what do I need this choice to give me?;  what is the best way to say, listen, do, think and feel to get this choice to work?

Summary of choice theory/choice behaviour

  1. We all have the freedom to choose what we do next
  2. What we choose to do is behaviour
  3. We all have saying, hearing, doing, thinking, feeling, and physiology. These are our behaviours
  4. Some behaviours like looking, are mostly external. Some like picturing (thinking) are internal
  5. We all choose what we want next
  6. We are all responsible for our own behaviours, positive or negative
  7. A “want” is a picture we choose for our future. We choose the behaviours to get that picture to happen
  8. If we choose to do what we really want, we feel good. If we choose to be controlled / caused by someone else we feel bad / powerless
  9. If we look inside, we will feel the feeling that we experience to know to eat, sleep, have protection etc. These are survival needs. We all easily choose behaviours every day to help us survive
  10. Inside, we also feel we want to love and be loved, have fun, make our own choices, and choose to do things to help ourself and others (power / purpose). These are psychosocial needs. We all have them
  11. We all need to feel free to be ourselves. If others use negative words and tones directed at us like don’t , can’t , isn’t, must, won’t, then our needs feel emptied.
  12. A choice theorist is noticeable by his / her respect and kindness toward himself, the subject he is talking about, and other people. We are best to give up all criticism, argument, and competition. There is no such thing as constructive criticism.

Acceptance of these criteria is fundamental to participation in choice theory/choice behaviour
